The Equal Pay Day Tool Kit includes:
  • A sample lesson plan for high school teachers
  • Equal Pay Cookie Project instructions and template
  • Links to the latest wage gap statistics and report
Equal Pay Day was originated by the National Committee on Pay Equity (NCPE) in 1996 as a public awareness event to illustrate the gap between men's and women's wages.  They have selected a Tuesday in April as Equal Pay Day. Tuesday was selected to represent how far into the work week women must work to earn what men earned the previous week. Because women earn less, on average, than men, they must work longer for the same amount of pay. The wage gap in the US for women continues today and women currently only earn 80 cents for every dollar a man makes.  The wage gap is even greater for most women of color.

The Handbook for Developing Women’s Commissions is designed to be reproduced and used in your development process. Narrative has been kept to a minimum for ease and accessibility. At the end of each section, resources have been included for your reference. The handbook also includes forms, worksheets and checklists to use at your disposal.

Voices of American Women: National Listening Sessions Initiative

The National Association of Commissions for Women NACW) is launching a listening project across the United States and invites your Commission for Women/Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) to join us as the venue for the voices of women in your community. Our hope is that CSWs around the country will hold public forums inviting the women of their communities to talk to you, and thereby “talk to us” about the issues they confront as women in their everyday lives.

The listening tour in your city, county or state can take several forms. It can be conducted as public town-hall styled forums, as a survey, or as a focused discussion among your own commissioners. However you choose, we hope you will ensure that the voices of women in your jurisdiction are included in the Voices of American Women project. Join us by contacting the National Association of Women’s Commissions at Voices of American Women: National Listening Sessions Initiative.
